According to reports, there are over 150 dolphins found dead in the Gulf Mexico and the cause is the BP oil spill last year and the chemical dispersant it contains.

NOAA or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said that so far in 2011, they are already153 dead dolphins found in the Gulf. Sixty five of them are babies.

University of Central Florida marine expert Graham Worthy and other 26 other experts conducted a study about the effects of spill. They said that they found the dolphins in Gulf part that saw five million barrels of crude leak, which is known as the worst oil spill in the history of US.

Worthy also said that he suspects that they might be seeing several things that will come together and form a perfect storm. Also, not usual cold waters were partially to blame are also conditions that dolphins survive so the deaths may also be seeing in indirect effect stemming from BP Oil Spill.

Last month BP pledged $1 billion to start the project for helping restore US Gulf Coast. They will restore the damage coastal marshes, replenish soiled beaches and conserve ocean habitat to give a hand for wildlife to recover. Aside from that, the funds are also for rebuilding wetlands and barrier islands that gives natural protection from storms.

After 87 days, 206 million gallons of oil had gushed out of the runaway well 1, 500 meters below Gulf of Mexico surface. There are over million gallons of dispersants that were deployed to break the oil on the surface and also deep underwater. Environmentalists cautioned that their use was hazard to the health of plant and animals in Gulf.

There are contaminated fragile coastal wetlands and beaches. The third most Gulfs rich water in the US is already closed for fishing purposes and the economic cost already reached tens of billions of dollars since the leak started last year in the month of April after deep-sea drilling rig explosion.
